How the age calculator works
Enter your date of birth. The calculator measures your exact age as of today, or as of any date you choose. It displays your age in the calendar format of years, months, and days, where each month is counted from the day of your birth. The calculator also shows your age in total months, weeks, days, and hours, plus the day of the week you were born and when your next birthday falls.
Months are anchored to your birth date, so January 31 plus one month equals February 28 or 29, depending on the year. This calendar-based approach respects the actual structure of the calendar and is the standard way ages are stated in everyday life.
How age is calculated
Example: Born May 15, 2000, as of August 24, 2026. Starting at May 15, 2000, we add 26 complete years to reach May 15, 2026. Then we add 3 complete months to reach August 15, 2026. Finally, we count 9 remaining days to reach August 24, 2026. Age is 26 years, 3 months, and 9 days. The total elapsed time is 9,597 days. Verification: from May 15, 2000 to May 15, 2026 spans 26 years with six leap days (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024), totaling 9,496 days. From May 15, 2026 to August 24, 2026 adds 101 more days (16 remaining in May, 30 in June, 31 in July, and 24 in August). Total: 9,496 + 101 = 9,597 days.
Why months make ages ambiguous
Calendar months vary in length: February has 28 or 29 days, while April, June, September, and November have 30 days, and the rest have 31. When counting months from a birth date, the count depends on where you start. January 31 plus one month is February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), not March 3, because the calculator steps to the same day number in the next month or uses the last day if that day does not exist. This is why age must be stated in years, months, and days rather than a single large number.
Leap-year birthdays
If you were born on February 29, the calculator treats your birthday in non-leap years as March 1. In leap years, your birthday is celebrated on February 29. This convention ensures you have a birthday every year and that the next-birthday countdown works smoothly. The age calculation remains accurate because it uses the actual calendar dates, and February 29 exists every four years (with rare exceptions for century years).

The next birthday is calculated as the next occurrence of your birth month and day strictly after the current or selected date.
What if I was born on February 29?
The calculator treats February 29 birthdays as March 1 in non-leap years. This ensures you have a birthday every calendar year. In leap years, your birthday is February 29. Your age and all calculations remain accurate because they track the actual calendar dates you have lived through.
Does the calculator account for time zones and daylight saving time?
No. Dates are treated as calendar dates at UTC midnight, so time zones and daylight saving time cannot shift your age by a day. The total days, hours, and minutes are calculated as multiples of whole days from midnight to midnight, not as clock-time differences between two specific moments.
