How stack sizes work
Every item in Minecraft has a maximum stack size, which is how many of that item fit in a single inventory slot. Most blocks and common items stack to 64. A smaller group stacks to 16, including ender pearls, eggs, snowballs, signs, honey bottles, banners, armor stands, and written books. Tools, armor, weapons, potions, buckets, boats, minecarts, beds, shulker boxes, enchanted books, and music discs do not stack at all, so each one takes a full slot.
Because containers are measured in slots, the stack size changes how much they hold. A double chest stores 3,456 cobblestone but only 54 diamond pickaxes.
Container capacities
Each container holds a fixed number of slots. Multiply the slots by the stack size to get the item capacity. The player inventory counts the 27 main slots plus the 9 hotbar slots, not the armor or off-hand slots.

Stack formulas
Example: 10,000 cobblestone
10,000 cobblestone divided by 64 is 156.25, so that is 156 full stacks with 16 blocks left over. A shulker box holds 1,728, so you need 6 shulker boxes: 5 of them completely full, and the sixth holding the remaining 21 stacks and 16 blocks. The same pile fills 3 double chests (2 full plus part of a third) or 5 player inventories.
For a build, a 50 × 20 wall that is one block thick needs 1,000 blocks. That is 15 stacks plus 40 blocks, which fits in a single shulker box with room to spare.

How many items fit in a shulker box?
A shulker box has 27 slots. For items that stack to 64 that is 1,728 items, for items that stack to 16 it is 432, and for non-stackable items it is 27.
How many stacks are in a double chest?
A double chest has 54 slots, so it holds 54 stacks. At 64 items per stack that is 3,456 items, or exactly two shulker boxes' worth.
Which items only stack to 16?
Ender pearls, eggs, snowballs, signs and hanging signs, honey bottles, banners, armor stands, and written books all stack to 16. Buckets stack to 16 only when empty; a filled bucket takes a whole slot.
Can a shulker box go inside another shulker box?
No. Shulker boxes cannot be placed inside other shulker boxes. They can be stored in regular chests, barrels, ender chests, and your inventory, but each one takes a full slot.
Are stack sizes different on Bedrock Edition?
