How it works
The calculator projects your follower count over a time window you specify (up to 120 months). It supports two growth models: compound growth (percentage-based) and flat growth (fixed gain per month).
Compound growth models follower counts that grow proportionally with your audience size — as you gain followers, algorithmic reach often improves too. Flat growth assumes a steady monthly gain regardless of your total followers, typical for a niche channel with consistent, predictable growth.
Worked example
Suppose you have 10,000 followers and grow at 5% per month for 24 months. Using the compound formula: 10,000 × (1.05)^24 ≈ 32,251 followers. If you set a 25,000 milestone, the calculator determines you reach it in month 19, since 10,000 × (1.05)^19 ≈ 25,270.
Percent growth vs flat gain
Percent growth is more realistic for accounts where reach and virality scale with your audience — typically established accounts in trending niches or algorithmic platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Your 5% growth rate applies to your current follower count each month.
Flat gain suits steady niche channels (e.g. a specialized tutorial channel, a small community, a personal blog) where you expect a fixed number of new followers each month, independent of your total. Real growth is lumpy: viral posts create spikes, and slower periods follow. Both models smooth this out and serve as optimistic estimates — actual growth will vary.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my monthly growth rate?
Compare your follower count now to what it was 30 days ago. Subtract the old count from the new count, divide by the old count, and multiply by 100. If you had 9,500 followers a month ago and 10,000 now, your growth rate is (10,000 − 9,500) ÷ 9,500 × 100 ≈ 5.26%.
Is compound growth realistic long-term?
No. Growth rates in social media typically decay as accounts mature — niches saturate, audiences diversify, and the algorithmic boost fades. Treat long-term compound projections (past 12 months) as optimistic. For a more realistic forecast, run multiple scenarios with declining growth rates, or simply track your actual growth month-to-month.
Why does 'months to milestone' round up?
You cross your milestone sometime during that month, so the calculator rounds up to the next whole month. If your calculation says 18.7 months, you reach the milestone during month 19, so that is what the calculator shows.
